Every material that goes into a Formentto piece is sourced within 100 miles of our Hickory workshop. This is not a marketing decision. It is a quality decision. We know our suppliers. We know their craft. We know what we are building with.
The Frame
The skeleton of every piece is kiln-dried engineered hardwood or solid wood, depending on the design. Kiln drying removes moisture, preventing warping and cracking over decades of use. Engineered hardwood provides dimensional stability that solid wood alone cannot match.
Our frames are built to outlast everything else in your home.
Springs
We use eight-way hand-tied springs—the gold standard in upholstery, and increasingly rare. Each spring is tied by hand in eight directions, creating a suspension system that distributes weight evenly and maintains its integrity for generations.
This takes longer. It costs more. It is the only way we work.
Cushions
Our cushion cores feature Trillium spring-down construction—the finest available. A core of premium springs wrapped in layers of down and fiber creates the perfect balance: supportive enough for daily use, luxurious enough for the moments that matter.
Every cushion is built to maintain its shape while developing the lived-in comfort that makes a house a home.
Upholstery
Fabric selection is where your vision meets our craft. We offer an extensive library of premium textiles—performance fabrics, natural fibers, luxury leathers—each chosen for its beauty, durability, and ability to age gracefully.
Every piece is cut, sewn, and fitted by master upholsterers in our Hickory workshop. The seams are precise. The welting is exact. The tailoring is meticulous.
The Hands
A Formentto piece passes through many hands before it reaches yours. Frame builders, spring tiers, cushion makers, cutters, sewers, upholsterers—each a specialist, each with years of experience, each working in the tradition of North Carolina furniture making that spans over a century.
There are no shortcuts. There is only craft.
